Groom Toasts - Stay in control
By TheWeddingPlanner on Dec 27, 2009 in Wedding
If you genuinely forget to thank someone during your groom speech or groom toast, you may be forgiven – but to say the wrong thing entirely may lead to disaster! This is probably the one single thing that most if us dread during wedding speeches! Thankfully I really wanted to avoid this, so looked up a number of great tips to help you avoid this embarrassing situation. Click here to learn more: Groom Toast.
Pleasing Your Bride
The worst thing you could do during your groom toasts is to start talking about your ex-girlfriend. It might seem obvious, but believe me there are grooms that do it! Even if you want to compare your new wife favourably, if she’s anything like mine she will not appreciate it – My wife would certainly not approve, particularly on her wedding day, the most important day of her life!
You should also speak favourably of the bride at all times. Try to avoid teasing jokes, this is not the right time for it. In my speech I stuck to what I knew my bride would want me to say, and it worked!
Steer Clear Of Alcohol
Your biggest enemy is alcohol. No matter how well prepared your groom’s speech is, drinking too much could be your downfall. This has the potential to bring just about anyone down, making them say the wrong thing. I was really wary of this and decided to hold off much drinking until the speech was over. I’m glad I did!
The best advice for groom wedding toasts
If you want to be in control then my advice would be plan ahead. And not planning ahead means being in a lot less control of what you say. Luckily there are now plenty of sources of help online for those who want even a funny wedding speech that doesn’t offend anyone.
Finally, it needs to be said that talking too quietly or rambling on for too long, won’t go down too well. Practise your groom speach so you know it wont take a couple of hours to deliver! This will also boost your confidence! Click here if you would like to learn how to write a great groom speech: Groom Speeches.
